My main problem for planning a road trip was where to start, what to read first. I started with this book and while using other resources too I never regretted that decision because of the smart, careful and balanced way it is structured. The first part of the book is basically a short travel guide with suggested trips. I ended up combining two of them. This first part is too short to be a complete tourist guide (you'll want that too) but is perfect to get started because it gives you a very efficient list of the most interesting areas and a great feel for time, distances and possibilities.The rest of the book is a very practical reference for each area you want to zoom into with the right layout and amount of information per place. Once again it's a selection, not an exhaustive list of all the places (use other books and the Internet for that) but it's perfect to find something quick or set local expectations if you want to research more.The only major improvement I can think of would be to make the overview maps (which serve as a better table of contents) fold out as Knopf map guides and others do. I made a copy of them instead to save myself a lot of page flipping.As we were in the apparently unusual situation of using both an RV and a tent, another minor improvement would be to distinguish campgrounds that accept a tent *in* the RV spots as opposed to somewhere else.

This was a gift for a new camper traveler! It helped when he was on the road especially when he had no internet to check for places. That was when it was handy. Checking the internet was always better than the book, but a big help when he had none. Often times he didn’t have internet to check while traveling.

If you have an RV and travel the Northwest, this is a handy book that will help you find great places to camp that you would otherwise miss.

We bought this book and four others for a CA, OR, WA and British Columbia road trip over 5 weeks.This book was indispensable! Well grouped by areas, and sub-areas. Over and over again, we were so thankful for buying this book! I totally endorse and recommend it for RV camping

I ordered this book because I thought it to be an excellent resource for traveling in our travel trailer. I had checked it out from our library and found it to be very detailed. There may be some outdated information and the format can be a bit tough to navigate at first. But I liked the book from the library so much, that I purchased it. Fortunately, I was not in any hurry. It arrived 26 days after it was ordered. I had hoped to wait for a newer edition... this is a 2012 edition and the latest to my knowledge.

I have traveled extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest and much of the U.S. This year travel will be limited to the Pacific Northwest. As a "native" Washingtonian and lifelong camper I've been looking for a new guidebook that combines travel info with the latest on campgrounds. There are new parks and new travel ideas - enough to generate enthusiasm and travel plans! Each listing has large icon keys that make it easy to find suitable camping spots, ie 50 amps, big rigs, activities and more. The book covers Washington, Oregon and British Columbia with everything from weekend to multi-week trip planning possibilities. Thank you to the authors for a great guidebook.

Good condition but it’s a list of RV resorts and not campsites.

We live near Tacoma and have a motorhome that doesn't fit in many of the state and federal campgrounds in the Northwest. This newest Church book is very good at helping to find the right places for our rig. In a month, using their advice, we found three wonderful RV campgrounds that we didn't know about. One is next to a first class trout river and another is at an entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. Maybe the best part is that this book is helping us re-discover where we can go without using a lot of fuel! This is a great book for those that have never been to the Northwest as well as those that live there. Buy it! You'll like it!

Hospodar, who has worked as a chef and baker at Ayurvedic spas around the world, has been working on this book for 23 years. Upbeat and sprinkled with inspirational quotes, it includes a detailed explanation of the Ayurvedic diet and a questionnaire that allows the reader to determine his or her dosha, or body type. The recipes, though clearly written, emphasize Ayurvedic principles over flavor, omitting, for instance, eggs, garlic, and onions. Many of the recipes call for the spice hing, which is hard to come by for many cooks. Those looking for a vegetarian cookbook with broad appeal may prefer Deborah Madison's excellent Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone (LJ 9/15/97). This "cookbook" reads like a novel, so lovely and lilting is it written. Ms. Miriam's writing style is that of an old friend giving you advice. No "tsk, tsk, don't do that!" Instead, the reader feels as if she is being let in on some wisdom passed down through the ages in a familiar, friendly, almost it's-just-between-us format. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her writing style.The recipes are clear and easy to follow and there is a wide range to choose from, appetizers to desserts, and she has not included JUST East Indian recipes, which is exciting for me! She has included Thai and Mexican and Russian and other recipes that "fit" well into ayurvedic tradition. It's SO interesting, I am reading it like a novel!Also, she starts out the book with a really pretty great overview of ayurvedic prakriti/dosha identification. Another WONDER~FULL thing about this book is her recognition/acknowledgement and in fact VALIDATION to the working Mom or Dad that, yes, cooking from scratch takes time, BUT it doesn't have to take A LOT of time (she gives useful tips on how Indian households use Crock-Pots and other quick ideas for busy wanna-be home cooks).Being a fan of quotations, I *ADORE* how she intersperses almost every useful item with a corresponding piece of wisdom in the form of a quotation.Another thing I love about Ms. Miriam is her "At Play in the Universe of..." sections. She gives solid recipes for each category of food, AND gives these fun tips about how to mix things up in that category or "Universe."This is just a completely fun AND respectable cookbook. I don't think one needs to necessarily following ayurvedic to like this cookbook. It would be a completely adorable and useful addition to any cookbook collector's library. But, if you ARE into ayurvedic, I THINK THIS IS A MUST-HAVE.Namaste to Ms. Miriam and THANK YOU! Thank you, too, Amazon, for having it available and on Prime! Love Amazon!postscript: Yes, the recipes are onion and garlic free, and she explains the ayurvedic reasons why in a fair amount of detail. In places where one normally would use garlic or onions, her recipes include "hing," so I suggest when you purchase the book you also purchase some (available at amazon.com), also called asafoetida, if you do not have an Indian market near where you live.

I love this book, and I believe it has a rational approach to Ayurveda and vegetarian cooking - 'balance'. Conceptually, I like being able to prepare healthy meals for everyone and having the ability to nurture someone individually. Although I haven't read the entire book yet, it's already been very helpful in understanding the key principles of Ayurveda and Indian cooking. It also provides many international recipes, which the author considers balanced Ayurveda. The book is very comprehensive, and it will continue to provide a valuable resource long after I sift through all of the information. It's easy to look up info by food, food type, recipe, or the many types of reference info. I'm learning and testing out different recipes with the desire to learn how the 'different tastes' are balanced I bought both the kindle and the print copy as an added convenience. I love the word search capability. Thank you for sharing your wide-ranging knowledge in this wonderful book.

At first perusal, I wasn't very impressed with this book. It seemed sort of lengthy and all the recipes seemed a little too simple, like why would you even need a recipe to make that?However, after trying some of the recipes I have become a huge fan of this book. Whether I'm looking for something Ayurvedic or just something to make quickly for dinner, I can find the absolute perfect thing in this book.The recipes may seem simple, but they are plentiful and amazing. I have tried many vegetarian cookbooks, but this one is way beyond what I could have hoped for in a singe resource. The author obviously did a huge amount of researching and testing to make the incredible variety that are available in the book.

I have The Age of Enlightenment Cookbook by Miriam Kasin, which presents Indian recipes that support Maharishi Ayer-Ved, and it has been MUCH used! When I found this, I bought it looking forward to trying Ayervedic recipes from around the world. I have not been disappointed!

This book is an awesome investment. It includes history and descriptions about every category of spices, vegetables, fruit, legumes, rice, soups, beans, nuts and more. It reminds me of a teaching cookbook as the recipes are easy to follow. There is also tons of added information about all types of other food groups. It reminds me of a vegan version of the "Fanny Farmer cookbook " which may be out of print.

This book allows ayurvedics to be applied outside of the cultural constraints of Indian cooking. It is a vegetarian cookbook with discussion about balancing doshas, and includes Western recipes. It does not, however, give quite as much discussion about each recipe in that context as I would have liked. It is based on the Maharishi Mahesh's approach.

Impulse buy as most endocrine issues are found by other specialists and not my strongest subject so has been useful but not something I use daily.

I am a nurse practitioner in an endocrinology practice and I have found this book the be a great, quick pocket reference. The information is concise and up to date. I have not found and discrepancies between current recommendations and those in this book. Fits easily in lab coat pocket.My single complaint is that there are no tabs on the side of the pages to quickly navigate to different topics. I have to use the table of contents each time. With the exception of that issue, great pocket reference!

This is a great start-up resource book that I carried with me while doing my endocrine clinical. This book is loaded with good and useful information that can be serve as quick reference. Please note that this is a pocketbook therefore the font will be small. I tried to read the book but end up with sore eyes. Then I decided to use other textbooks/ online resources to supplement the material.

This book is an excellent account of Italian warfare in the Renaissance. It can get a bit dry in a few places, but Mr. Mallett does a good job of keeping things moving along. Clarity is another strong point of this book: I never had trouble understanding what the book was trying to tell me. This should be commended, since this kind of subject matter is easy to render painful to read.This book is quite old at this point by scholarly standards, and its age is starting to show in some places. Most notably, its account of the Battle of Castagnaro is almost completely wrong. (The battle's Wikipedia article was, at the time of writing, much more accurate. It's also worth a look, since it's one of the more famous condottiere battles.) That said, the rest of the book holds up excellently, and it's totally worth a read for anyone interested in the subject.

Detailed overview of the Italian Condottiere in the 15th century. The focus is less on individuals, battles, or social histories, but more on the administrative interaction between mercenary capitans and the Italian city states.Good read for anyone interested in the topic but a bit dry for dabblers.

Interesting, but some detail may not be correct. The author indicates the crossbow came into use in the 12th century, but it ws there long before that and not invented in the West. He may have meant it largely replaced the longbow then. Interesting details on some of the leaders and operations.

This is simply the best book about warfare in Renaissance Italy. It is a serious academic study, but trust me, it reads as a good novel. The author opens for us a bright window into the world of condottieri, tyrans and heroes of Renaissance Italy, world of enormous passions, ambitions, lust for power and money, chivalry, violence and war. One of my favourite books on Renaissance warfare!

A quirky and delightful book that was given to me as a gift, and was so interesting to the person who gave it to me, I had to get him his own copy! I'm not a brave cook, but he is and while I find the recipes fascinating and would love to try them, he's actually made a few. Very different cook book.

My boyfriend loved it! Hes always looking for good recipes for ALL of the animal parts...and I do mean ALL. This book is easy to read, has clear instructions and explanations about what you're making (plus some tasty tips). Even though my palette isn't quite as adventurous, this makes it easy to cook for my other half. Definitely recommended for those "outside of the box" consumers.Also shipped really fast, and was packaged nicely in a padded box.
