What can be more devastating for parents than to learn that their child is autistic? When her son was diagnosed with autism at 19 months, Seroussi, a small-business owner and wife of a research chemist, determined to do everything in her power to help her child achieve normal functioning. In addition to pursuing recommended speech and behavior modification therapies for her son, Seroussi devoted her considerable energies--often against medical advice--to researching alternative approaches. Her own experience and a growing body of scientific evidence pointed to connections between autism and diet. And though the theory has not yet been proven, Seroussi says, research now suggests that autism may be an autoimmune disorder triggered in rare cases by an infant's measles-mumps-rubella immunizations. Convinced that the inability to digest certain proteins was contributing to her son's condition and that his autism was related to his reaction to MMR vaccines, Seroussi eliminated suspect foods from his diet; he made such dramatic improvement that, by age four, he was functioning normally. Now a crusader for dietary intervention, Seroussi has written a book that will give hope to many families--though she cautions that not every autistic child responds to such treatment. PRO: The author writes extremely well and the narrative of her son's early diagnosis of autism and his eventual recovery through diet (GFCF) and therapy is a compelling read and offers hope for any parent with an autistic child. KS is a "warrior" mom who devoted her life to her son's recovery and the happy ending is well deserved.CON: The book is old (~10 years) and the science has moved on. Unfortunately, she refers to the infamous (now mostly debunked) vaccine-autism link. I'm no doctor/scientist but I read a lot about autism. It now seems there's 0 link between autism/celiac but there is likely some link between gluten-sensitivity and a subset of autism cases (it's likely there are several types of autism with different causes). So a GFCF diet may help some children (especially if they have GI issues) but most will probably not be helped. I'd recommend DR. Sears' "Autism Book" or Martha Herbert's "Autism Revolution" instead for a more up-to-date look at alternative treatments.Unfortunately, because much of the narrative is about her son's early development and her thoughts at the time- this book can't really be revised to update the science.

Hi I bought this as i have a daughter who is 3 with autism.I loved her tenacity in the book and admire her fight for her son.However it is mainly about diet.Other biomed is not discussed too much in the book.It is still a great story and very helpful info on diet.Also some great info about her experience with some of the great autism doctors and researchers.Overall it sorda reminded me of louder than words by Jenny McCarthy,but Jenny talks much more about all Biomed treatments.Im very happy her son recovered through diet and ABA but our journey has been a little tougher.We also implement the GFCF diet and low sugar but we also have done an array of other things all Moms on the biomed journey are familiar with.I know alot of people can be put off by her "parents who dont try GFCF are bad".It is a ch allege to say the least but the results are amazing.My daughter is much more with it.More in our world so to speak.I believe autism is some form of the immune system issue attacking itself.While autism can come from many ways.Yes vaccines are one of them.At least my babys was.Its very complex.Its just like a puzzle as they say.Your child may have a severe allergy that has taken them into autism.I find it helpful to look at your family history as she did.Its almost like detective work and last but not least DONT GIVE UP!!!!

I believe any parent with a child diagnosed with Autism, ASD, PDD, allergies and bowel disease should invest their time and money in reading this book. Reading this book validated what I had suspected with my child. Karyn Seroussi filled in the blanks. I feel empowered. Yes, it is difficult to accept her suggestions to a restricted diet for some. It is selfish to not at least try the diet because it is inconvenient.I have been preparing special meals for my daughter since she was able to eat solid foods because she has severe food allergies to milk, soy, all nuts and eggs. My pediatrician took it even further and tested for food sensitivities (IgG; Elisa testing) and discovered a list of food intolerances. Same ped checked her titers for MMR and discovered they were through the roof. My baby's system was overloaded with vaccines. I was fortunate to have an open-minded pediatrician on my daughter's side. She has been on a specialized diet removing the additional 23 harmful foods (IgG) for one year now and she has improved tremendously. Especially removing the apples and tomatoes from her diet. However, it wasn't until reading this book did I understand the reason for her improvement. I even took it further and removed the last phenol from her diet.....BANANAS. She no longer has hours of inconsolable crying. Her GI physician wanted to put her on Prevacid and all along it was bananas. Needless to say I didn't start her on Prevacid. She recently started Nystatin and after the initial die-off of yeast, the haze has lifted. For the first time since she was 3 months old, she's now 5 years old, she laughed when we tickled her. I didn't understand the effect of yeast until reading this book. At least I was already on the right path. MOM'S KNOW........This is a wonderfully written story of ups, downs and eventually ups. It will not be the answer to everyone's situation. Although I highly recommend reading the book if only to better understand and answer your own questions.~ From a parent of a non-Autistic child but instead with a child with diagnosed with PDD, LGS, asthma and severe food allergies.

Really enjoy reading the works of the old theologians and Pastors. John Wesley was one that sought for God, we get to see this struggle as we read his journal. Another thing about Wesley is that he did not try to act self-righteous, we see that he poured his heart out in honest seeking and searching for God and the Salvation that Christ brings. He shared his life and he shared his struggle and shared what mattered most to him. I highly Recommend this Book to anyone who wants to read and learn more about the life of John Wesley.

Although out of print, this is a must for anyone wanting a solid overview of Wesley's massive "Journal." Wesleyan study groups wanting to get the feel and tone his journals will consider this a must. Very good but not cumbersome. Highly recommended.

I had no idea how persecuted a Christian could be in a civilized society. I've learned a lot about piety and suffering for one's faith. He was and is an inspiration to all Christians.

Fascinating life of dedication to the Lord.

I first read the journal of john wesley a few years ago and and have re read it since then.I was really impressed by the extent of the traveling that he undertook throughout England Ireland Scotland Wales Holland and America. His preaching in all sorts of weather often being abused and attacked by angry mobs. His observation of the society of his day. He had a keen interest in health and angry at the injustice of the society and medical men of his time.He was so impressed when he observed an electric machine being demonstrated that he purchased a few machines and trained people to operate these machines to be were used in the poor area of London.He also used the machine himself during his many travels and claimed that it be a wonderful device for health, he had never heard of it hurting either man nor beast. If you enjoy history and a glimpse into the life and observation that John Wesley was so good at entering in his Journal you will enjoy this book and be astounded at the difficulty of the travelling that he undertook in his lifetime. great man of God.

I thought it would have more about his sermons. I guess I'm not a big journal fan.

Has been a very interesting read and was what I was looking for. Although edited, it is in Wesley's own words.

These are well written with believable character and good plots. No bad language and no vivid sex scenes. Now we're just waiting for the next one in the series.

These stories remind me of a TV series, Death In Paradise, which were a terrific binge! The plots and characters are all so similar and make reading a stress-less stretch of time to calm the soul during a very stressful period in the real world. Truth, justice and happy endings......

I was hooked with the first book. Simply pleasurable reads can be hard to find. The setting on Jersey was new to me. The mysteries were honestly presented, I could figure them out by the end but I liked the way the author tied everything together.

I really enjoyed reading this series of books. They were clean, well written and quite entertaining. D.I. Graham is extremely likeable and could actually be a real person. He is human like the rest of us.

I’d give this collection 3 1/2 stars...if I could. The writing improved by the third novel. They were short cozy mysteries with an interesting setting in the Isle of Jersey. I liked the main character and would read more books from this author starring this character.

I hadn't noticed that the four books are in one volume, which make them a little difficult to handle, particularly for bedtime reading.

This a great series, well worth the price paidI liked this series, everyone would like this series.Good work !!

This was a required text for a college class I was taking and it was so disappointing. There doesn't seem to be a clear time line laid out and as a class we found many issues, so many that out professor had to supplement this text with correct information that made sense in the form of handouts. If you don't HAVE to purchase this book don't.

Clear, concise, easily understood in layman's language.

This book was required for one of my classes and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I learned so much that I had no idea about. I liked the loose-leaf format more than I originally thought I would and will probably use loose-leaf books in the future.

This was supposed to be a new book and it was actually a copy that was to go into a binder. It also had food on the cover before the plastic was removed.

Worked out perfect and in great shape!

Used this textbook for my master's degree. Excellent quality
