I'm fairly new to Solaris/UNIX - about a year of dabbling with it. I've been awaiting the release of this book for quite a while (It was announced a year before release then was late). When it finally came in the mail the other day, I dove right into it. About halfway through, I'd say this is a pretty good book. It covers all the essentials that are built in to Solaris. I am reading it cover to cover and taking notes in a file. Although it doesn't cover complex 3rd party apps, like BIND, it does cover smaller 3rd party products, such as ssh. It does cover Solaris in and of itself pretty well and I am learning a lot. I'd recommend this as an addition to your library.

I loved the style of the authors regarding the basic concepts BUT the examples and stories they tried to relate to... oh my, they were not good. I've had some experience with numbers in my work and this book was for my MBA program. Therefore, I'm not a novice but the book made a point about relating stories to numbers and how effective it is (I agree, of course) but the stories this book tried to tie in were off the mark most of the time. That being said, there are so many good parts of the book to help you develop your quant brain.

I had a little trouble understanding who the authors had in mind as the audience for this book. It seemed to basic for any professional who would have to deal with statistics/data or would have to manage/collaborate with someone who does.There are some helpful reminders throughout about how to approach problems and how to communicate your ideas. But the authors seem seem to replace depth with a multiplicity of business-y anecdotes (ironic, as they include the old chestnut "the plural of anecdote is not data" - the plural of anecdote, it so happens, is not "a book").Overall, the book feels superficial. It might inform you how to probe an analyst on first-level questions, but doesn't provide enough depth to take you through a couple follow-ups or know when you're getting snowed.

As a management professor I keep reading all sorts of books. This book is a nice introduction to Quants for people who are afraid of numbers and data. It is written in simple language and analytic concepts are explained well for non-data people. A good introductory book if you are looking to acquaint yourself with the analytics world!

basically story-telling, too basic, a light introductory work, no takeaways, although some examples presented were interesting. Not for a seasoned professional.

I just took a new position, and my dean has been trying to develop a better decision making process and structure. This book is a must read for anyone not in the data science business but who needs to understand how to use data better and learn what questions to ask and pitfalls to avoid in collecting and using data.It's a very valuable investment of time to read. I promise it will stay on my Kindle forever, and I'll recommend it to anyone who has decision making responsibility.

This is a fine introduction to the world of data analysis for business professionals. The authors do a fine job of providing a generalized framework for analytic approaches to business problems. It also provides a number of helpful anecdotes which are presented in terms of the framework to help the reader understand them as real-world exercises. Other than that, it is a very standard business publication - high on concept, low on practical impacts. If you are already familiar with basic analytic techniques or are a designer or user of BI/dashboards/etc., then this book is not for you. If you are completely new to these things, it will be helpful.

Must read for non-quant managers and analysts involved in business analytics. Author clearly did a good job of explaining problem framing to decision making in easy language. It is also a good read for quant people to understand on how to communicate extracted information to co-worker and managers.

If you aren't a quant but you realize the power and importance of data driven business, this book is for you. A very solid, accessible overview that will get you started. I am an experienced gardener. When I received this book, I wondered if I would really learn anything from it. I was pleasantly surprised. One thing that was unclear when I read the description was the week by week and how it applied to each zone. The first thing you do is mark your last and first frost date. The book is broken into weeks based on those dates so you can use it according to your area.

I haven't put this book down since I got it, really, I take it to work with me and read on breaks, too!Been highlighting and making notes of what will be very important to me in my garden. It's useful now as I am late on starting some seedlings indoors, so will be doing that this weekend! Really puts what needs to be done and when in perspective, very helpful and lots of great tips to make gardening easier and fun!I have been saving articles from magazines on gardening for years and now cut out some things from them and pasted them into this wonderful book on pages that apply for the subject discussed. Fun to add your own notes and tips and have a keepsake type of garden journal and notebook that will be used, written in and can be passed down to your kids later in life.Worth every penny, thanks to the authors for taking the time to make this book, a lot of thought was put into it and I just love it! Also, have to add that it's great the authors geared the book towards organic type of gardening too.

This book won't work for everyone. It claims it will, but unless you can figure out how to tamper with the timeline on your own, sorry, nope. (As a beginner, I'm not sure how to do this).My last frost is approx. April 3. So, for me, I'm being told to pinch up late tomato blossoms in late June (when things are barely getting going!) and ripping up my plants before we even get to the tomato boom in August!When the book has early winter coming during the peak of gardening season, something is off. (And yes, I double and triple checked my dates).I can't recommend this book if your growing season looks anything like mine (first frost Nov 11, Last frost Apr 3, approx).If you live somewhere with a very short growing season, it would be a great book and I'm jealous. This book is (mostly) weekly, so I realize it can be easy to think it will work for anywhere - esp. since you write in your own dates, but it simply WON'T.I'm bummed. It looked really helpful. If anyone can prove me wrong I'll gladly up my stars and use the book!

I wasn't expecting the book to start in January. I had some catching up to do when I got in March. It has so much useful information though. Great book for the beginner gardener wanting to get to expert level gardener. I told my boyfriend that its exactly the type of book you'd want on hand in print form for a zombie apocalypse. You'd be a pro after a couple read throughs and there's plenty of content to keep you entertained. My only complaint is that I wish it went over the process of actually starting a garden your first year a bit more, since this is my first year trying to start a garden at my new house. It's geared a bit more towards a garden routine year-after-year which should be super helpful in future years!

I bought this book thinking it would help me better plan out my garden throughout the year. While it did have everything sectioned in the weeks some of the information didn't really apply to my zone. Some of the time stamps for when they say to do things went past what Farmers Almanac and other information for my zone and state are saying. If I had to go back and do it again I probably wouldn't buy this book. I find it more reliable to check the internet and just make a list of what I'm growing and when my zone and state says to grow it.

As an amateur gardener I have been looking for something that would motivate me to get organized in my endeavors to plant my own garden. After a year of using this I found it to be very helpful and maybe a bit beyond my personal skill level and lazy gardening techniques. If you are super organized and would like to become more so look to this book as the answer.

I went through and pencilled in the first and last frost dates and tried to match up the dates with the timeline in the book, but I had "usable" growing season weeks left at the end, which I don't quite understand, espeically since I'm pretty sure I live in the same county as the authors. Regardless, it's a very good planner for what to do when, has lots of great advice for a new gardener like myself, and inspired quite a bit of impatience, as I started reading and using it before my garden was actually ready! Recommended for New Englanders (Zones 4 - 6), but I don't know how easy it would be to match up growing seasons for other (especially warmer) zones.

A pretty fair amount of useful info, though I think the organization could improve. There were a couple of times I found myself searching the first parts, because it said set out transplants of something that I didn't see anything about starting earlier. I was searching the chapter starts, which are 'TO DO' lists, and it was only mentioned in the text. Also, the whole thing is intended for you to determine your last frost date from local sources, and then put appropriate dates in the header. While this is quite good, it would have been helpful to have a table of regions or states with either the approximate dates, or a range of dates which historically have been the last frost. I say that becuase, at least here, the publishing of said date by the university system comes after some of the things should have been done.It is very well built, sturdy cover and binding, because it doubles as a notebook for recording things you will want to do differently next year based on whatever happened. To that end, I could say it could use some more pages for such info, and I would like to see some more info on some things, but those are minor points really.Overall, a great book for someone with moderate to little experience with growing crops.

I enjoyed reading Anthony Everitt's book on Hadrian. Like many other comments here, I too felt he spent too much time describing the political world unto which Hadrian emerges. Frankly, the first half of the book where he does this was on the boring side, and I almost set it aside.Thankfully, the second half where Everitt focuses on Hadrian is much more interesting, particularly the themes of Hadrian's (homo)sexuality and Antinous and how that was thought of in ancient Greece, ancient Rome, and today, as well as Hadrian's love and support of Greek culture and his "Grand Tour" of the Roman empire.I appreciated his introduction and afterwards where he explained particular problems regarding the reliability of ancient sources on Hadrian. I also liked that Everitt integrated the sources into the text, without the use of footnotes. (Is ANYTHING more annoying than to constantly have to flip back and forth??)One concern I had was that the narrative almost seemed too smooth, especially given what Everitt's says about the quality of the sources. He does occasionally go through variations of what happened in particular instances based on the different primary sources, it's just that I wondered about the validity of the rest.Additionally, I would have appreciated much much more perspective on how Hadrian is perceived today and in subsequent years, or how Hadrian affected the course of Rome. The final chapter does this but it was way way too short.I'd like to give the book a 5 because Everitt is such a smooth and polished writer and historian, but, given the above, a 4 fits better.

This is a very well documented biography of the Emperor Hadrian based on historical writings of his contemporaries and later historians. The author is careful not to make too many assumptions about Hadrian's personality, private life and habits and focuses primarily on his reign as emperor and military exploits. Everitt does have a chapter on his relationship with Antinous, the young Bithynian whom Hadrian was so enamored with that he made him into a god after his mysterious death. He explores his relationship with his contemporaries, his soldiers, and his officers more in depth than he does Hadrian's family, assuming this is because of lack of written historical documentation. Everitt also gives an excellent timeline of his travels across the Roman Empire, as well as his methodology for keeping the pax romana rather than using up resources for further expansion. Overall, an excellent book.

A good read, lots of substance........well paced, easy, digestible chapters, with clear text for the casual historian as well as the serious student. The author explores Hadrian as an object of biography, not as a sterile academic 'term paper'. What's really interesting here is the author's quiet allusion to Hadrian as an early example --indeed, likely the original example-- of a world leader at the crossroads of history who questions long held geopolitical assumptions. Like recent past examples (Richard Nixon, Deng Xiaoping, Mikhail Gorbachev), Hadrian looks at the realities of the moment and has the wisdom and courage to see and consider alternatives. In his case, it was the modest retreat of Roman armies to much more defensible, stable borders, but still maintaining the lucrative broad interests of the Roman Empire.....trade routes (the eastern Mediterranean ), key natural resources (Great Britain),friendly allied tribes (present day Spain, Germany), etc. By retreating from the Tigris, Euphrates rivers, moving south of the Danube and west of the Rhine, building a wall across present day southern Scotland, Hadrian help launch a very stable period of economic and social stability across the wider empire that still has implications to this day. During a quiet interlude in the civil wars before the great denouement at Actium (31 BC), Mark Anthony reached the Caspian Sea and present day Baghdad in hopes of overcoming the Armenians and the Parthians......what would the world be the like today if the Romans had remained for a few hundred years? By the way, Anthony had a large contingent of Jewish mercenaries with him at the time.......very tough fighting men for their day.

Another excellent product from Anthony Everitt, although I do have one caveat on this book. There was a seeming paucity of documented information on Hadrian, especially his pre-Emperor years, versus what Mr. Everitt relayed about Augustus and Cicero. This leads to a lot of suppositions which detract only slightly from the overall work. I could honestly say on of the "extars" I gleaned from the book due to the lack of documentation of Hadrian's early life is learning much more about Trajan and his life and times as Emperor.In addition, I did feel that more detail was given in this book to the actual specifics of governing Rome and Roman lifestyle and habits than the readers ever received with the other two biographies.Mr. Everitt has a great way of putting things and I find myself chuckling often through his books. One is very much drawn in and feels like the character in the book has been known for years. I can actually envision some of the things happening.As always, I remain a fan of Mr. Everitt's work. I am willing to purchase any of his writings if on a topic of interest to me.

He is a seasoned medical device innovator (over 18 devices) and an expert in identifying and analyzing unmet clinical needs for quick development of affordable, high-quality medical devices. Guest Authors Ramakrishna Pappu is a founding member of the InnAccel team and brings a unique business perspective to MedTech innovation. He is a market research and financial modeling expert and co-invented VAPCare (first in the world Critical Care product) and has conducted several Biodesign Fellowship programs. Dr. Rohan D’Souza is a clinician who graduated from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, following which he worked in Pharma, as a Medical Advisor at Pfizer and in MedTech at InnAccel, as part of the AIM Fellowship with the Lemelson Foundation. His experience in conceptualizing and developing each of his innovations has taught the author something new, and this he has passed on to others through this book. Despite the stated focus as a book for doctors looking to engage with the MedTech ecosystem in India, the book has several teachings for engineers, product designers, business strategists, marketing folks, and investors as well.This book as the author rightly claims is not a textbook – it is more autobiographical in nature and serves as a guide for everyone in the MedTech industry. Having said that, it would serve students looking to enter this industry well to get a better understanding from the insights shared.The author has covered all the important topics that would be relevant to gain a comprehensive understanding in MedTech—from the importance of working on the right problem to creative approaches to technical solutions, from understanding stakeholders to finally getting the product to the end users—this book covers almost the entire gamut of relevant topics for innovators.The style of writing is very clear, to the point and simple. The tone is more descriptive than prescriptive and this effectively gets the author’s point across. The caricatures are a delight, and the appendices at the end are very well thought out and quite comprehensive. For all the critically important information that this book contains, it is a surprisingly quick read – at less than a 150 pages, which I think was intentional – to keep this as a handy guide for innovators and would be innovators.For a young and growing MedTech ecosystem like the one that exists in India, this book has been released at very good time. I feel it could help a lot of young and new entrants into the Indian MedTech ecosystem to learn from one of the most prolific, passionate and innovative clinician-inventors of our time.

The book is put together perfectly - With inspiring real case examples, simple informal and straight-to the point writing, and a plethora of useful information, couldn't have asked for anything more! It covered all aspects of med device development in India, without seeming to thrust a cartload of information onto the readers! Kudos to the author for making it such a light read, despite squeezing in his 5 years worth of experiences and insights!I enjoyed it as much as I loved the "Biodesign: The Process of Innovating Medical Technologies" book! A brilliantly crafted Indian version!

This book has detailed information about the development of medical devices in India as a complete product ready to be launched in the market. Dr.Jagdish has given a number of cases he has experienced which help us understand the situation and the concepts with much clarity.The language is very simple such that it can be understood by a lay man.

Very well written book. A must read for all those who wanna make it big in the space of medical device innovation. What adds to the flavor are the real life experiences of the author in making new medical devices.

Presents a complete process of inventing medical devices .Contents of the book gives real examples makes the book all the more interesting.Must read for aspiring innovators.I highly recommend this book.

Well put 143 pages. A book which answers most of the questions and gives complete insight over starting from finding the right problem till getting the device to end user.
