About the Author

Patrick Hurley received his bachelor's degree in mathematics (with a second major in philosophy and a physics minor) from Gonzaga University in 1964 and his Ph.D. in philosophy of science with an emphasis in history of philosophy from Saint Louis University in 1973. In 1972, he began teaching at the University of San Diego, where his courses included logic, philosophy of science, metaphysics, process philosophy, and legal ethics. In 1987, he received his J.D. from the University of San Diego, and he is currently a member of the California Bar Association. He retired from teaching in 2008, but continues his research and writing, including work on A Concise Introduction to Logic. His interests include music, art, opera, environmental issues, fishing, and skiing. He is married to Dr. Linda Peterson, who retired from teaching philosophy at the University of San Diego in 2015.

If I could give zero stars I would the pages fall out so easily I could just be reading and turn to the next page and the page falls out and so many fall out itâ€™s annoying if they try to charge me full price when I return the book I will raise hell cause this book falls apart so easily

Pages fall out when you turn them. Binding is faulty.

(Not happy that there isn't a negative star rating available.)I was very upset about my two rentals--which I am still stuck with. The rental hardbound book has conveniently self-detaching pages and I can't read my rental e-book on 7th Gen Fire tablet integrated Kindle app or on my Android Kindle app--only on my Kindle for PC and the laptop gets heavy.If you have the $110+, buy the looseleaf, I guess. At least those pages are intentionally loose.

When I started class and opened this textbook, I noticed that a chunk of pages were detached from the spine of the book! As I flipped more and more pages came off. Also, there are pages that are missing from the book making it hard to follow along in class, section 2.3 goes from page 94 to page 103! This is my first time renting a book and I thought the textbook would be in great condition! At this point I don't know if I should return it and miss out on what's going on in class or wait for a new one! Very disappointed!

So far I'm 2 weeks into my Logic course and I still can't particularly understand whatever I'm supposed to be understanding. The book explains Logic like you've already taken a Logic course. It just doesn't explain the terminology used before it goes straight into using it. The outside cover of it is nice to look at though. At least that's something it has going for it.

Book appears new but the pages keep falling out and I have noticed a page or two missing. Every time I turn a page they seem to just come out in my hands. I need the book for class but I am glad I rented it. Do not buy!

This book was pretty beat up when I got it as a rental. The content is full of liberal bias.

It meets my needs for class. I wish it had more of an index but does everything it needs to.
