I recently saw an exhibit of the entire collection of Audubon illustrations. That was the motivation to purchase this book. It is complete and printed on nice stock with excellent renditions of the illustrations. My only complaint is that some of the larger plates that are "landscape" are printed straddling the binding. It just ruins the illustration. The drawings that required that should have been printed either on a foldout that preserved the integrity of the print or on the long axis of the book. I would rather turn the book 90 degrees to view the intact illustration than have it broken by the binding. Disappointing, given the price of the book..

Nice book. shipping was great and delivery fast so no quibbles there. Images are not quite as accurate as with other more recent publications such as the Sterling/Sibley effort, (which is gorgeous and a bargain). Most of the images in this book are good to very good, and a few are not so good. Dark colored birds lose some of their relief and detail. It is as if many images were underexposed if they had been photos. However what I do love are the wonderful annotations by Roger Peterson on each of the 435 birds. They were carefully researched and thoughtfully written. Also, unlike some criticisms, I like the ordering of the birds by genus and species. I can see how Audubon treated similar birds. So what the reader is getting with this Abbeville production is a combo art book and ornithological treatment of Audubon's birds, which makes sense given that Mr Peterson was so involved in the production. . The intro written by Mr Peterson is also excellent. One final word of caution the book is huge and heavy, that is good and bad. good because you get large bordering on poster sized images. Bad in that one does not easily handle this thing. Lastly the binding and overall physical construction is outstanding. Comes in a beautiful slip case.

This is just as described. A tiny version of the real book. It's hard cover easily hand held and seems to be sturdy. The picture quality is good but it's difficult to see the fine details. This is no fault of the book but just the nature of such a small book. There is a brief biography in the front but if you need reading glasses this may be difficult as the words are very small. It's a nice book for kids to look at and if you don't want to spend the money on the large version. It can easily be carried around, taken to bed to flip through. However, I think to see the true beauty of the work you may want to buy the large coffee table size. Overall, I'm happy with purchase. It is exactly as expected and explained in description.

This book may be "tiny" but it's telling. John James Audubon's birds are a classic of design, wonderfully realistic, and authentically American. Well worth having or to give as a present.

This "baby elephant folio" is indeed a tiny but complete book of Audubon's "Birds of America." It is a perfect edition to give as a gift to friends and family who are Audubon aficionados. It is great quality and the price can't be beat; I purchased several.I am adding this note: I have been reading through all the reviews and comments to reviews and it is obvious that many of the reviews are referring to a different sized edition of "Audubon's Birds of America" that have been for sale on Amazon. The item I wrote my review for and what is titled for sale as "Audubon's Birds of America" (Tiny Folio) is not the same book most people are reviewing, so it is confusing. The so-called "tiny folio" is not actually the title of the book being sold here. The book, which IS tiny and measures 4.5 x 4.3 x 1.5 inches, is hard covered and contains 435 pages. It is small but fully packed! It is sturdy! The actual title is "The National Audubon Society BABY Elephant Folio Audubon's Birds of America." It doesn't say "tiny" anywhere, only in Amazon's description. This book is not a coffee table book, it isn't for scholars, it isn't so big it won't fit into a bookcase, it sits nicely in the palm of your hand, actually covering just the palm of your hand, and it is beautiful! It is a great gift for someone who has everything, or someone who has shown some interest in Audubon's major work but doesn't want a bigger book, it is great to have in your own bookcase or on the corner of the desk. I think Amazon needs to review its description for this BABY folio and take out the "tiny" from the description and then when they get other editions (which are sure to be larger) to be sure they have the correct description for them. BUYER BEWARE! This book is very small but you will love it!

It greatly surpasses other Audubon books.Description: All of Audubon's work in full size, unlike other books where most of the art plates are 3x4 images. Needs a sturdy table, weighs 15.4lbs and is exercise just to move it! Foreword by Roger Tory Peterson. Book I received came in a beautiful box case.This book makes a great gift, but the person who you are giving it to, needs to be in healthy and strong shape.Book is much too large for normal sized book case.

This review is for the Tiny Folio of "Audubon's Birds of America." It's a gorgeous little book, very thick but very small dimensions - it can fit in the palm of your hand easily! Nonetheless, the images in it are beautiful and the book is very well-made. We are studying Audubon in our homeschool and my young children adore this little book; its tiny size makes it irresistible and they never grow tired of looking at the many images it contains. We will be checking the large folio out from the library, but if you love Audubon's artwork but don't have room for or can't afford the giant edition, this tiny book will delight children and adults alike!

I adore this calendar. You get 3 add'l photos of cute dogs on top of the one that is featured for that month. Seeing all of these dogs puts a smile on my face, and would do the same for any dog lover. I did not receive anything in exchange for this review.

So cute! I am a huge fan of interesting office wall calendars as conversation pieces, and this one is perfect for that! Plus, who can hate Mondays when you sit down at your desk and stare into the eyes of adorable dogs!

Great photos and stories.

She forgot to get calendars, of course she says I did, so I at least got to choose, and this was one of them, a fine choice, a lot of nice dogs in it, including a white German Shepherd, of which we currently have 5 living with us. Great quality too.

Early Christmas gift for my mom (since it begins in Sep 2016) and she loved it! All the pictures are adorable and in good quality.

I wish the cover photo was duplicated in one of the months so I could put it up on my photo wall.

LOVEEEE this calendar! Nice and big but not too huge. The pictures are way too cute and the boxes are big enough to fill in multiple events for each day. :)

My son loves these books! He isn't much for coloring and pretty much has ADD, so I didn't have any expectations when we brought one camping last summer. He sat and did every single page while we were camping. Now he is seven and I still loves them, I like to save them for car trips and vacations. He is super absorbed in them and keeps him busy.

We were introduced to these books in a Chick-Fil-A meal and we love them! The quality of the stickers and the pages is awesome and my 6-year-old can do them by himself for busy work during days home. I didn’t appreciate the quality until we bought an off-brand from Walmart and the stickers weren’t very sticky and many would flip off the stickers page when trying to remove just one. It was miserable trying to complete the junky sticker book. I’d recommend these for anyone whose children like puzzles and patterns.

My husband has done every adult sticker paint book available on Amazon and this fall we ran out of options for a couple of months. So I got him this sticker paints for kids book to tide him over and he really likes it. The pictures are cute and the stickers all fit together well. The pictures work up faster than the pictures in the adult books and that's the only reason I gave it 4 stars as an adult book. Our grandchildren love it and for a child it would be a 5 star book.

My daughter absolutely loves these... she'll be five at the end of the year. But, it's very educations, it keeps her refreshed on counting, simple addition and subtraction, number recognition -- and she has to work hard to fit the sticker exactly at the shapes are cut -- she has a lot of fun with these. She made the giraffe picture yesterday, and she was so proud (it looks terrific), that she keeps staring at it from time to time! I promised we'd get a frame and hang it up! I bought some of the adult versions too, because my therapist has suggested those adult coloring books to assist with anxiety -- only, I really don't like to color. This is a GREAT alternative, and I enjoy working on these little puzzles so much... and the pictures turn out beautifully!

I thought this was kind of challenging for our little grandkids but the 9 year olds found it a little challenging and then very fun as they worked through each picture. Turned out to be cute pictures and they felt accomplishment in doing the pics. Entertaining for picky, pouty, bored, pre-teen girls that are too big for some toys and too little for other things!

These are so much fun for kids to do. Mine does it while I read to him at night. He is 9 and could probably have handled this from the age of 7 or so. Not for little kids. Some of the stickers are really small and they need some really good fine motor control to handle them, and know their numbers extremely well.

My 6 year son loves these books! The pages are al perforated so they can be taken out easily. The sticker pages are perforated as well so it’s easier to take them out to do the picture. He does these on the bus to school, while waiting for his brother to finish piano lessons, etc.

These were great activity books for the grandchildren. They worked diligently at them and were proud of the finished product. Even little 5 year olds hands were able to do it.

I'm both an immigrant and US citizen. The Constitution fascinates me but also fills me with awe. Lutz's book may seem a little dry but its account of the transition from proud British immigrant to proud US citizen is fascinating. The profound heart searching and scholarship which accompanied this transition is remarkable. It may be politically incorrect for schools to teach this aspect of those early days preferring instead to preach identity politics, nevertheless Prof Lutz is there to be read and I hope and pray that before it is too late a culture of scholarship and reason dawns again in our liberal art and law schools.

A must read. Let's get it back in the public school teachings and raise powerful future politicians.

This 170 page book manages to cover the origins of the American Constitution more completely than any other work I have read.The author, Donald S. Lutz, convincingly demonstrates the sources of the American Constitutional ideas. The sources are not at all what I was taught in school. When mentioned at all, constitutional ideas like separation of powers and three branches of government were linked to a few European philosphers like Locke and Montesquieu;Lutz convincingly shows that not only are the ideas on government contained in the Constitution uniquely American, but that the whole idea of constitutionalism is an American invention. In 1787 the only written Constitutions that existed in the world were the Federal US Constitution and the 13 State Constitutions.Even the Bill of Rights contains mostly rights elucidated and developed by the Americans. Lutz points out that of the 27 rights in the US Bill of Rights only 6 were first found in Magna Carta. 75% of these rights were found in American documents prior to the English Bill of Rights in 1689 or the writings of John Locke. Highly recommended. As the author wrote near the end of the book, "The origins of the American Constitution, like the constitutional tradition of which it is a part, are complex and manifold, but ultimately planted firmly in American soil."

He develops a rich data base. Among these documents--colonial constitutions, state constitutions after the revolution, charters, covenants (religious documents), and pamphlets and sermons. Pulling these various sources together, he presents a story of the roots of the Constitution, He also discusses the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation.One very important chapter explores the people to whom the Founding Fathers referred. There were changes with time. Sources included the Bible (as a result of sermons), radical Whigs in England (Trenchard and Gordon), Enlightenment thinkers (Locke and Hume), English common law, and the classics (Greek and Roman sources).All in all, a fascinating examination of the roots of the American Constitution. . . .

Good condition

I used this book as a reference in an introductory Java class. In most cases, it was extremely useful, but there were also many times when I couldn't find a particular topic I was looking for. Since it is a "backpack guide," you would probably find it useful to use this in conjunction with a more traditional textbook that goes into more detail on more topics. This is nice to use as a simple, quick reference.

Mr. DePasquale clearly knows JAVA and understands the concepts and implementation. Being a relative newbie to JAVA, I use this book often for reference when I am programming. Mr. Handler does a good job of describing how to prepare for a camino hike, what to pack, how to travel, what to do while on the Camino. You can never get enough advice when planning a camino walk. This book gives very good advice.

Ryan did a great job of covering every aspect of what you need for the Camino. I especially appreciated the info on how to buy and get fitted for a pack and hiking shoes. I enjoyed his book and would recommend it.

I am starting to plan a trip to walk a portion of the El Camino in a year, and this is the first book I bought. I'm loving everything about it. Do I wish there were more photos and maps? Of course, that would be fun. But I'll get those in other books and research, which I'm now feeling more empowered to explore and understand.

I was getting ready to pack for our 7 day Camino pilgrimage but had not purchased a guidebook. Since we were only walking about 75--100 miles with a tour company, I did not want a comprehensive book on the Camino. I saw this book on Amazon and bought it for my kindle app. Read it in it's entirety on a 2 hour flight. Fabulous...can't wait for our experience!

This book was a good and frank overview about getting prepared to walk the Camino. I really enjoyed the way the author managed to work humour into his chapters which made it more like he was talking you through it than reading a list of things. Very informative and good amount of detail, with out being too dry.

Very interesting reading. However more pictures and a map or two needs to be included. I was disappointed.

"Everybody Loves Kamau!"Indeed.I always believed this, ever since I first started watching/listening when he had his first TV show, and I felt like I was one of his friends because I watched it while no one else I knew was. Surely he knew I was loyal! And surely he knew that I was one of the people he could count on.So this short piece by Mr. Bell intrigued me because--well, not everyone loves Kamau, not even those whom he'd reasonable expect would: his acquired family (through marriage). Not everyone thought he was good and kind and lovable. (Perhaps not even funny, the dastards!)But he explains not the "why" of this, but the "who." Which is a sad story, even with a redemptive arc. Kamau himself does what he can to present to people who he is; his friends and family do likewise; and slowly those who are twisted like a chain around an axle learn to see Mr. Bell as a person, and perhaps even learn to see themselves, and they let their twisted Slinky of self-value uncoil itself.I don't want anyone not to love Kamau. He's a good guy! But sometimes people are just formed to be afraid or judgmental or narrow or even wrong. It's hard to change how we're shaped, and even people of good will can be blind to their own brokenness.This story gives hope that sometimes these people can snap out of it--with the help of loved ones and family--and simply love the people in their lives with no reservations.There are no guarantees it will happen, of course. But when it does happen--it's beautiful.

It's a warm story about family and getting together in only a way Kamau could tell it. I really love how it talks about family over prejudice. The Dr. and Mr. Bell gave me warm fuzzies. What a wonderful read!

I love the author's style. He is a great storyteller and keeps you engaged. His series on CNN is very good.

Kaman and his white wife 's family get use to each other.. A common American phenomena in today's world gets dealt with.

I'm going to state right up front that, although I do watch CNN for news, I rarely ever watch their other programming. Not because I don't like Kamau Bell, Christiane Amanpour, or Anthony Bourdain. The few times I have watched any of them, I enjoyed their philosophical points and the way they come across. I just don't enjoy watching their shows.Despite that, I bought Everybody Loves Kamau! because it did sound interesting. Read on to find why I enjoyed this selection.After reading an intense Amazon First, I needed some humor. Of all the offerings of shorts, this was the one story that piqued my interest. The others seemed more oriented towards women, romance after divorce and so on.Kamau Bell writes mostly of his experiences in becoming accepted into an family of Italian descendants. I could relate to it, because while employed in Egypt after my divorce, I met an Egyptian lady of Lebanese ancestry that was as proud of their lineage as my grandparents were of their German ancestry, or as Kamau's girlfriend's family. While it might be complicated by his race, I doubt, had he been German, or Norwegian, that it would have been a cakewalk to get accepted. Still, the way he addresses the issues involved is terrific. Several times I broke out in laughter.When he finally did get accepted, Bell's discussion of the grandfather's death and funeral was both touching, and interesting. (He had become so accepted that he was one of the pallbearers, just as were the other grandsons. There is an interesting paradox regarding this, but I don't want to spoil the ending.ONE SMALL NEGATIVE In my opinion, the writer reverts to some stereotyping himself. Or, perhaps, he does so for its humorous effect. At any rate, were I to have referred to people in a style similar to Bell's, I expect more than an occasional person might complain. Then again, perhaps it is I who is over-reacting. So take my thoughts for what they're worth...ExcerptSorry, for these short stories I do not provide excerpts.BOTTOM LINEAn enjoyable read, with a few quickie animations sprinkled throughout to make for a more interesting experience than simply reading.
