Opal was a young lady who embodied a rough and tumble cowboy. In all four books, a character was running away or trying to find themselves. I liked that in this book, the person who was running away was a man. Sometimes women are the main focus for searching and facing troubles, but all people need to seek the Lord for His plan. I thought it was a good way to tie Opal to the main male character. I did think that she is too young in this book to be the focus of the romance connection, but time plays out nicely in the next book. Remember reader, GOD has HIS great plan for you! Conform to Him and not who or what society may say. He has known best for your life, long before you had life. God bless!!!

Things don't start out for Opal very good a drifter sees her swimming and almost takes advantage of her. But her friend Atticus comes to her aide. She enjoys living on the ranch with Rand and Ruby being apart of what happens on their ranch. She doesn't enjoy school very much with a new teacher being there. Also the thought of that drifter still being around unsettles her. She stays busy with school training horses and working around the ranch. Then Atticus gets attacked by the drifters and gets hurt real bad. This causes Ruby and Rand to send her back to the Brandons in New York for part of the summer which she doesn't want to do. Because she enjoys the ranch. Though she hates when she goes back there. In the end she comes back a grownup young lady. Well in New YORK a neighbor of Opal gets killed by the drifter who tried to harm her. She returns and goes to visit ATTICUS who she thought she loved. His family told her they were leaving. After this she goes back into what she loves being on the ranch. But into her life comes Jacob Chandler with a past of his own. He comes to care for Opal even with the big age difference. He doesn't start courting her yet. That all comes in the next book in the series which I read before these. So all ends well for Opal she gets to do what she loves and finds someone who loves her in the process. ENJOYED THE SERIES!!

Opal has had the freedom to enjoy her horse centered life style while growing up on her brother-in-law's ranch but some difficulties come into her life when she is attacked by a stranger. She is rescued by a male friend but later that friend is almost killed by her attacker and another. She has to come to grips with this and her relationship with God. During this time another man enters her life who comes to love her. He is struggling with God's will for his life and a previous sinful decision which leaves a women dead and him with a young son he didn't know about until then While the two of them work out these challenging events and his and her's relationship with God, they then must come to terms with their relationship. Again I am impressed with the characters created and their depth. I am also impressed with Lauraine Snelling's willingness to tackle difficult happenings in a Christian's life. I also like that she doesn't just make lesser characters from previous books in the series just disappear but continues on with their lives in each of these stories. I like this community she has developed and I like the way she integrates the characters growth in personal relations with God and their daily life and the choices to be made. The only thing I had trouble with was Opal's age (14 - 15) and the mature decisions she was being given to deal with but I think Lauraine Snerlling was trying to relate this to the time period and the pioneering lifestyle of the story.

Following Ruby and Opal thru their adventure in 1880's North Dakota has been an enjoyable read for me. I favor historical western stories with Christian based content since I do not feel erotic sexual trash for the sake of trash is necessary. Having been long married, I do not need the stimulation of that sort of writing although I am far from being prudish. Like another reader, I was a bit curious about how Belle would continue to fare after she was so abruptly dropped from the story in an earlier book. Guess I will just have to make up an ending for her myself after all.... hopefully a good one. As I continue with the 4th book, I hope everything will be tied up completely. Women in those days really had their work cut out for them. Makes me feel lazy ! After the last book I am sure i will miss the characters as I often do after I enjoy knowing them.

I have read this series and had a hard time putting down each book. I liked the way each story line tied to the next and the characters were very believable. I love Lauraine Snellings way of writing as she has a way of making you see what you are reading. Another thing I really like are the ties to morality and Christianity. In this day and age it is refreshing to read.

This book, a continuation of the series is well-written and engaging like the others . The author takes you to a time and place you will not want to leave and surrounds you with characters who are believable, fallable and colorful. The series has a permanent space in our bookcase...as my husband enjoyed reading it as well. Hated for this series to end.

I am beginning to dislike series.i have enjoyed this series but wish I didn't have to keep buying books to find out how everything ends. Love historical fiction but have one problem with this book...what 14 year old girl can kill a deer and hoist it up on a horse by herself? Come on...get your facts right. My husband hunts deer and it takes 2 men to get it out of the woods, let alone hoist it up on a horse. This volume of the series was good as always( she is one of my favorite authors ) but a bit slower.

I read all the books in this series: Ruby (1,) Pearl (2,) and Amethyst, too. I loved this complete story (the series together) and Lauraine Snelling never disappoints me. I almost wished there were more in that series, but it has to end sometime, I guess!I suppose you could read just one of this series, but you'll want to know what happens with all of them. Complex characters with an inspirational base makes for just the kind of historical (romance) that I love reading.
